Thanks to the impressive organizing work of MCAN and the Raise UP Massachusetts, Massachusetts will become the third state in the nation to approve a $15 minimum wage and provide paid leave. MCAN and allies collected 350,000 signatures from voters, and the legislature was forced to pass bills raising wages and allowing paid time off for serious illness or injury to workers or their families. MCAN’s advocacy means 943,000 workers will receive a salary that allows them to care for themselves and their families, and persons who are sick or whose family members need care will no long have to choose between caregiving and putting food on the table.
