WASHINGTON – The national directors for LA REDand LIVE FREE, two racial justice campaigns of Faith in Actionthat are dedicated to immigrant rights and gun violence and mass incarceration, respectively, will receive special honors this evening for their commitments to social justice from Alianza Americas and Presente.org, two nationally-recognized leading Latinx groups. Alianza Americas focuses on the protection and rights of Latin American immigrant voices, and Presente.orgserves as an online and in-person organizing epicenter for the changing culture of the Latinx community.

“We are truly blessed to have our work seen and appreciated by Alianza Americas and Presente.org,’ said Rev. Michael McBride, director of LIVE FREE. The work we do in fighting against mass incarceration and gun violence is work that touches all races and communities, and helps to unite us as a more understanding, just society. Alianza Americas and Presente get how important it is to remain motivated and united in the fight for justice, and we are mutually humbled by their efforts.”

“To be in alignment with organizations that carry just as much, if not more, passion and awareness for speaking out on behalf of our immigrant brothers and sisters is such an honor,’ said Richard Morales, policy and program director for LA RED. No one who does this work is in it for the glory, but it means something special to know that what we do is not in vain, despite what our country’s leaders would have you to believe. We are equally appreciative to Alianza Americas and Presente.orgfor staying in the fight for a combined 25 years, and are grateful for their presence in this sphere of social justice.”

Currently, both LA RED and LIVE FREE are working on Faith in Action’s #EveryoneCountscampaign, focused on ensuring that black and brown communities are represented in the 2020 Census. “Our campaigns fight for populations that are historically undercounted in the Census, so we are working together to educate communities and encourage participation by demonstrating how vital it is to stand up and be counted,” said McBride. “These numbers set the tone for our country’s funding and governance for the next decade, and as we head into another election year, this is the moment to ensure that our cities and counties are properly represented in Congress.”

LA RED and LIVE FREE will be honored tonight at “Our Story, Our Power,” a 25 year co-anniversary celebration for Alianza Americas and Presente.org, tonight at 6 p.m. at Eaton House, 1201 K St. NW. Washington, DC. Please contact us if you would like to speak with Rev. McBride or Mr. Morales ahead of the event.
