Advocates for out-of-work Ohioans renewed calls to state lawmakers to fix problems with the unemployment compensation system that continue to prevent thousands of jobless workers from receiving benefits during the coronavirus outbreak.

Jammed phone lines and computer glitches have plagued the system for months, while stringent eligibility requirements prevent many from getting any help at all.

“I would summarize my experience with the unemployment system as I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It’s cruel and torturous to ask people wait this long for any assistance when major companies get bailouts at the snap of their fingers,” said Cindy Lang, a self-employed painter from Parma, a Cleveland suburb.
